what do you think about mormons?

(yeah, the picture is a cover for some book, but I am having issues cropping, and it was the only picture that explains how I feel.)

(I need to begin my comment by ignoring your question completely, and commenting on your actual post first. I'll get to my answer later.)

You have simply asked, "What do I think about Mormons?" But then you, sort of, post your own answer saying that you love them. In order to say anything negative in my comment, then, it implies that I must hate them. Why this intrigues me is that it is so prevalent in the foundations of Mormonism. If you look at the history of the Mormon church, the beginnings of it are based in the idea that Christians hate - they hate each other and they hate anything that is different than them. According to Mormonism this is why God wanted Joseph Smith to start the true church. The other issue that your post brings up is that you asked for my thoughts and responded with your feelings. This is similar to another common item in Mormonism - the burning of the bosom. I have found that this feeling trumps any amount of logic in a conversation with a Mormon.

So, here are my thoughts. I, too, love Mormons. I love their work ethic. I love their sincerity. I love them as people, as I do any of my unsaved friends, and I wish that I had a way to show them the error of their ways without seeming to hate them. When most people talk negatively about Mormonism, they focus on things like the "holy underwear" and their ideas on multiple wives and children. The issues that I have with Mormonism are more based in that they attribute characteristics of Satan to Jesus and God (who was the first created being again?) and also that they do not consider Christian scriptures to be inerrant. (For example, most Mormons that I have talked to do not believe that the book of Hebrews should be in the Bible, probably because it contradicts so many of their core beliefs.) I think that Mormonism is one of Satan’s greatest illusions. You think that you are seeing one thing, when, in fact, you are seeing something very different.

I find it interesting that most of the time when Christians want to learn about Mormonism it is so they can learn about what might be right about them or so they can learn to hate them more effectively. So, I’d love to talk with you more about this sometime – and since we’re both on break this week, it might be a convenient time. (I realize that physical conversations are against the blogging code, but since my comment is more than 3 paragraphs and could be, and should be, longer, I thought that it might be okay.)

yeah, I guess my comment about the picture kind of does say that I love mormons. That wasn't exactly what I meant. I mean, I do, but then I love my Buddhist and athiest friends as well.

You know how sometimes people wear shirts that say stuff, just to get a reaction, but not because they really believe in whatever the shirt says? or they do believe it, but not so much, they just want to see what people would say? Okay, so that's kind of how I feel about Mormons, I love them, a lot. But I'm so confused on how I feel about them at the same time. It's like, I could wear that shirt and freak my parents out, but at the same time, I couldn't because it would be hypocritical of me.

I don't know, it's difficult to explain. I just want to know that I'm not the only one who thinks about mormons probably more than I should.
