Still no interesting emails....

but today was a better day. I got a master schedule! Ok, so I stole it from Renee. And it's official. I am taking summer school.

No, not because I am a slacker (though I am), it is so I can get credits for college this summer and next year so I can maybe graduate college in like 3 years. or 3 and 1/2 would do. Whatever gets me to Costa Rica soonest.

Sidenote: gracias anonymous, sus palabras me alentó, mucho!

in other news... there is a new pope. Mr. Meyer said he got elected because he plays the game of politics well. So, I'm not catholic or anything, but I don't like the idea of a political pope. That bugs me. He represents christianity to a lot of people, across the world, and you know, he ought to at least be a nice guy about it, like John Paul 2. I guess I should give him a chance, but then I thought, well, he's kinda stupid anyway.

I mean, what is up with the Roman Catholic church? I am not trying to be bashing on them or something, but really, they need to take a look at their doctrine. The whole confessing to priests thing has been bugging me a lot lately. Along with the sainting, I mean, they want to make a saint out of John Paul. Granted he was a good guy and all, but no! For crying out loud, I AM A SAINT! Have you read the New Testament? It says so! And that was the whole point of Christ coming, so we wouldn't have to have an intercessor between us and God, because now we are the bride of Christ, and we can communicate with God. Let us enter his throne room with thanksgiving and confidence. Do I need a priest to confess to? No, I can talk directly with God, that's the beauty of Christian Spirituality, it is not a religion, it is a RELATIONSHIP. I don't have to pray to Mary to intercede on my behalf, I can do that through Christ. They are leading people astray from the beauty and pure essence of why Jesus even came! ERG!

So yea, that's my little rant.

I agree that there are a lot of messed up doctrines in the Catholic church. I've never understood why they think they need to ask the saints to intercede, because it kind of defeats the whole point of having a personal relationship with God.

The new Pope was John Paul's "right hand man" and good friend for forty years... I think that may be the main reason he got picked. If that's what was meant by "the game of politics," then I don't see the problem. If he got along with John Paul and they supported each other, then what's wrong with him getting elected Pope? He might be just as good as John Paul was. He's also very conservative, from what I've heard on the radio and the news.

Then again, once he starts being Pope, and all this hype goes away, we'll go back into not caring what the Pope does, just like before John Paul died. It's the Protestant Way.

I don't know about the Protestant Way. Maybe more alon the lines of American Way. Because I pay attention to it, considering they are our brothers and sisters in christ, and what not.

I know that the new guy was friend's with John Paul, but still, getting elected to Pope really is a game. It's all about politics, in the church, not like governmental. That just bugs me.

I'm sorry it bugs you, but I'm not sure I'm understanding why you feel that way. We're not Catholic, so what difference does it make what the Pope says or decides? What I'm confused about is how you listed all these things you disagree with in Catholic doctrine, but then you say you pay attention to it because they're our brothers and sisters in Christ. But you also just made fairly clear - point me right if I've got this wrong - that you think they don't really have a relationship with God because they're too busy with the semantics of their religion.

I don't pay attention to the Pope, but I'm not going to blame that on the fact that I'm American. That has absolutely nothing to do with it. I don't care what the Pope says or does because it in no way affects me or what I believe. So maybe Benedict XVI did get elected because of political strategy, and maybe he didn't. Either way, I don't think it's important. It's not because I think badly of him or any Catholics I know, it's because I'm not Catholic. It's not because I just don't want to bother with current issues, it's because I'm not Catholic. That's all there is to it.

I know the Pope does represent Christianity to the world in a lot of places, but I'm more concerned with how I represent Christianity - no, Christ to the world here, and how our youth group is doing that. We shouldn't sit around and say "well, he's doing it wrong" when we can't get it right, either.

well then. I didn't know that I "can't get it right."

i have lots of roman catholic friends, and some of them really are christians. Sure, I think they're overly caught up in the traditions and rituals...but that doesn't mean they aren't apart of the body.

I don't agree with the church doctrine, and it bugs me that everyone looks at the pope and thinks they see Christianity. and i'm interested in seeing how other Christians think, because you know they are my family, and they might think differently, but I still ought to know about it. Especially since I am going to be a missionary in a preominantly Roman Catholic country.

i think that what the pope does, says, encourages, I think it really has a huge impact on me, whether I agree with him or not. People group me with him in the same manner as though we believe all the same things, and if I don't know what he's doing/saying/whatever, then how can I defend myself against any accusations?

i only blamed it on being american, because here we are very much in a bubble, and fairly often we forget about the world around us. That's why I would call it the american way...
